Accepting food waste for chooks and compost

I have a relatively large (for the Eastern Suburbs) vegetable garden and five chooks in Maroubra. It is on a sand dune and that means it needs lots of compost, so any is always welcome!

Hi Oliver, have you tried some local businesses asking for their green waste? RBCG get some delivered, however our bins are filling up. Perhaps we can talk if you could take delivery of up to 10 x 20kg buckets of organic Fruit & Veg waste from a wholesaler?

Message me if you want to chat?

Hi Marika. I have shied away from setting up any pick up arrangements from a vegie shop, just because I know that sooner or later I will get too busy or be away and let the arrangement down. Or even take a larger delivery in case I can't get to it before rats or the disgruntling of neighbours. My garden has no vehicle access and everything needs the time to carry it all 50m up the dune. When I was at RCOG years ago, Lachlan Giddy was doing it and became overwhelmed by it all. At this stage I am setting up a bucket exchange out the front of my house for neighbours.

Cheers,

Oliver

No problem - neighbours are great resources for compost anyway. I have 2 in my building and 2 from next door adding to my stash I take to RBCG twice a week. It all adds up and i'm happy they dont waste their waste!
